Catholic
open the season by sweeping a double hitter from Brantley (11-2 and 9-4.)
In
the opener, Brantley jumped out to a two run lead in the top of the first inning
with two unearned run. In the bottom of the first Catholic exploded for 10 runs
on 9 hits. Catholic added one in the second and then cruised for the win.
Dwight Hause pitched the first three innings and picked up the win,
allowing only two hits and striking out six.
Dwight also helped his own cause with a double, a single, two stolen
bases and scoring two runs. Andy
Barranco went three for three, with two singles and a double, scoring two runs
and swiping two bags. Davis Bonham
was two for four, with a single and a double, and scoring one run.
Donald Hayden was three for four with two single and a triple, and
scoring one run. Brad Parker was one for two with a single and a walk, stealing
two bases and scoring two runs. Jonathan
Kimbrough pitched a strong 3 and 2/3 innings, surrendering only one hit and
striking out four. James Hause
faced one batter in the bottom of the seventh, recording a game ending strike
out. The three pitchers combined
for a three hitter, striking out 11 in seven innings. Offensively, Catholic had 19 runners on base in 6
innings, and stole 13 bases. In
the nightcap, Brantley jumped out to a three run lead on a walk, and two singles
before Brad Parker settled down get 10 of the next 12 batters out, picking up
his first win of the season. Leadoff
hitter, Dwight Hause, went two for four with a single and double. James Hause
was three for four with a triple and two singles, scoring two runs and stealing
three bases. Davis Bonham was issued two walks, then stole two bases and scored
one run. Donald Hayden went one for
one with double, two walks, scoring two runs and stealing four bases. Jacob
Hudson went two for three with a single and a double, stealing a base and
scoring two runs. Davis Bonham
pitched two innings of relief, surrendering only one hit and striking out 5.
Jacob Hudson also pitched a strong 1 1/3 innings of relief.
James Hause pitched the final 1/3 of an inning.
The four pitchers gave up a combined 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out
six. In the second game Catholic
had nine hits for nine runs. Twelve runners reached base and they recorded another 13
stolen bases, giving them a total of 26 stolen bases for the two games. |
